Overall goal:
Enhance the quality of education for children with special educational needs (CSEN) in
Somaliland (Awdal and Togdheer regions) and reduce poverty through training of partners on IE,
vocational skills, and provision of equipment to parents/caregivers.
Description

Objective 1:
Promote awareness of the education needs and capabilities of CSEN
Activities:
– Signing of Memorandum of understanding with Ministry of Education and Science (MoES)
and launching of the project
– Awareness raising for public primary school teachers on IE
– Awareness creation and sensitisation of the community (focusing on parents/caregivers
of CSEN) on child rights and education of CSEN

Objective 2:
Support for mainstreaming of IE at all levels of the education system
Activities:
– Training of selected primary schools’ teachers on child-centred teaching methodologies,
behaviour, and class management skills
– Training of selected teachers in specialized areas (Educational Assessment, Braille,
Sign Language)
– Capacity building of MoES personnel (Regional and District Education Officers,
School Inspectors) on monitoring, planning, management, and implementation of IE
Objective 3:
Improve living standards for CSEN and their families through skills training and provision
of equipment to selected families.
Activities:
– Capacity building of selected parents/caregivers of CSEN in vocational skills,
entrepreneurship, literacy, and numeracy
– Provision of sewing machines to the parents/caregivers who had received training
on sewing/tailoring.
