Our commitment
We want every person, including people who are blind or have low vision, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and people with motor, cognitive or neurodivergent access needs, to use this website independently and with dignity. This site is designed and built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, with a clear pathway towards Level AAA.
What we have built in
- Accessibility toolbar on every page, open it from the button in the corner or with Alt + A. Four one click profiles (low vision, dyslexia, focus / ADHD, seizure safe) plus individual controls: text sizing from 90% to 170%, line and letter spacing, bold text, a dyslexia friendly font, text alignment, a dark theme, high contrast, colour saturation, highlighted links and headings, a reading guide, a large cursor, a stronger focus outline and reduced motion, all remembered between visits. A read aloud control speaks the main part of the page, or the text you select, using the voices on your own device, at three speeds.
- Keyboard operability: every menu, form, filter and dialog works without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator and a skip to content link.
- Screen reader support: semantic landmarks, a logical heading structure, descriptive link text, live-region announcements for search results and form feedback, and meaningful alternative text on every informative image.
- Readable by default: the site uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed for readers with low vision, with generous line spacing and strong colour contrast (minimum 4.5:1 for text).
- Forms that help: visible labels, hints before the field, error summaries that receive focus, and errors described in words, never by colour alone.
- No traps: nothing flashes, auto-plays, or imposes time limits; animation respects your system's reduced-motion setting.
- Multilingual foundations: an English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili language switcher with full right to left layout support for Arabic.
- Performance as access: optimised images and lightweight pages, targeting load times under 3 seconds on 3G mobile networks, because bandwidth is an accessibility issue too.
How we test
The platform is evaluated through three complementary methods:
- Automated testing with recognised industry tools (such as axe and Lighthouse) on every release.
- Expert manual audits covering keyboard-only navigation, screen reader interaction (NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack, VoiceOver) and magnification.
- User testing with persons with disabilities representing a range of access needs, because real use finds what checklists miss.
Known limitations
- Full translation of all page content into French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili is in progress; navigation and key interface controls are translated today.
- Some photographs supplied by partners include embedded caption text; we reproduce that information in the surrounding page text.
