Guidelines on Intersectional Discrimination Against Women and Girls with Disabilities.

Abstract

These guidelines from the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities provide practical guidance on identifying, preventing and addressing intersectional discrimination against girls, adolescents and women with disabilities across different stages of life. They examine how disability interacts with factors such as gender, age, ethnicity, poverty, migration status and other circumstances to create distinct and compounded forms of discrimination. The guidelines explore these challenges across key areas including education, access to justice, health and reproductive rights, employment, participation, humanitarian action, conflict and displacement, and climate change. They also outline measures for governments and other duty bearers to strengthen inclusive laws, policies and services, promote meaningful participation of women with disabilities in decision-making, remove structural barriers and ensure their rights and lived experiences are reflected in policy and practice.
