The 2025 PISA results provide a global snapshot of the learning outcomes of 15-year-old students in mathematics, reading and science across 91 countries and education systems. More than 760,000 students participated in the assessment, offering valuable comparative evidence on educational performance, equity and the factors influencing learning.
For Kenya, PISA 2025 marks the country's first participation in the international assessment, with 6,460 students from 245 schools representing approximately 199,000 students nationally. The results provide an important baseline for understanding Kenya's learning outcomes against international benchmarks, highlighting significant challenges in mathematics proficiency while also creating an opportunity to track progress over time. Together, the global report and Kenya Country Note offer evidence for policymakers, educators and education stakeholders to reflect on learning gaps, strengthen teacher development, invest in foundational learning and identify approaches that can be effectively scaled within Kenya and beyond.
