Education Under Attack 2026

Abstract

Education Under Attack 2026 examines the growing threats to education in conflict-affected settings, documenting attacks on schools, universities, students, teachers and other education personnel, as well as the military use of educational facilities during 2024 and 2025. The report profiles 28 conflict-affected countries and identifies attacks in 83 countries overall, highlighting how conflict, political violence and insecurity disrupt access to safe and continuous education. It also examines the disproportionate impact on girls and women, learners with disabilities and other marginalized groups, while highlighting emerging threats such as the use of explosive weapons and attacks linked to protests and electoral violence. The report concludes with recommendations for governments and other stakeholders to strengthen the protection of education, uphold the right to safe learning environments and support implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration.
